Elon Musk in 2015 announced that the SpaceX Company has plans to deploy satellites to the orbit to provide high-speed internet broadband access throughout the world. The satellite name is Starlink, and SpaceX began in May 2019 to use its constellation through the launch of the initial 60 satellites. The total number of satellites that SpaceX had added as per 22nd April was 422, and it has not received a positive response.
There is a fear that the company is adding space junk. Some of the people had raised concerns that Starlink and some of the constellations which produce a negative impact on astronomy. The change of the brightness of the satellite was among the changes during the presentation done during Astro 2020 (decadal survey on Astronomy and Astrophysics 2020), which was at the National Academy of science medicine and engineering. On Monday 27th, there was Optical Interference from Satellite Constellation meeting, which consisted of the Starlink Panel (MUsk) that presented the intention of the company to minimize the pollution of the light caused the constellation from Starlink.
The American Astronomical Society (AAS), Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), and the International Astronomical Union have given the official statement concerning other constellations and the Starlink. The Agencies have expressed the concern on how the satellites will disrupt radio and optical surveys such as those of Vera C. Rubin observatory which is previously LSST largest synoptic survey Telescope, square kilometer array (SKA) and EHT (Event Horizon Telescope) which in the past days it acquired the first image of a black hole as communicated by the IAU.
IAU said that most of the reflections may be faint that the naked eye cannot see, and they are sensitive abilities of the sizeable ground-based telescope for astronomy, which includes the wide-angle survey telescope, which is under construction now. On the other hand, there are means to avoid interference of the radio astronomical frequencies. The aggregate signals for the radio from satellite constellations are a threat to the astronomical observation of the wavelength of the radio.
